About the Competition
Flower Jam - 2019. Moscow Summer Gardens.

The "Flower Jam" Open International Competition of Urban Landscape Design will be held in Moscow In the summer of 2019 for the third time.

This year, the lifespan of the Flower Jam exhibition gardens will be extended: they will stay functional not for several weeks only, as in previous years, but for several months, from June to September.

Permanently Blooming Gardens is the Concept of the Urban Landscape Design Competition and Festival (which in 2019 will be held traditionally in late August and early September) and the theme for the competition task is Summer Gardens of Moscow.

Participants are invited to design competitive gardens based on the fourth dimension - time. Summer Gardens of Moscow will bloom, change colors, volume and appearance, while maintaining decorativeness throughout the summer and creating points of attraction for Moscow inhabitants and tourists.

Accepting applications for the professional competition is already open and will last until December 15, 2018. Deadline for reception of projects is January 15. At the end of February, the Expert Council will meet for discussion of the projects submitted to the competition.

 The finals of the Competition and the summing of results will traditionally take place in late August and early September as part of the Flower Jam Festival. Also during the Festival all special projects will be implemented and special events will be held: the Amateur Flower Gardening Contest on district venues, events dedicated to the Moscow City Day and others.
Stages
The Competition will be held in 3 steps:

Stage 1 - application and selection of finalists

Participants submit applications, which include information about the participant, a portfolio of relevant projects and a sketch of the projects idea.

The Expert Council selects the finalists of the Competition.

The Organizing Committee of the Competition together with the Expert Council assign locations for the finalists projects.

Stage 2 - development of the exhibition gardens implementation documents

The finalists and expert mentors elaborate the projects according to specific location conditions.

Finalists of the competition develop documentation for the subsequent implementation of the projects submitted at the 1st stage.

Stage 3 - implementation of exhibition gardens and selection of the best projects

The public spaces in all the districts of Moscow will be decorated with implemented competition works: gardens, landscape compositions and flower beds which will form places of attraction and rest, green oases for citizens.

The jury evaluates the implemented projects and determines the best by voting. The jury members examine the projects up to three times from June to August and evaluate the decorativeness of each garden at different points of time. The results of the competition and the names of the winners will be announced during the "Flower Jam" Urban Landscape Design Festival in early September.

The authors of the best realized projects receive a reward in each nomination
The professional Russian and foreign teams of landscape architects and designers are invited to participate in the Competition. As for the beginning landscape designers and florists, theres a special amateur nomination for them, called the Flower gardens at the district exhibition venues".

«Large Exhibition Garden (200-400 square meters)»

Gardens are implemented in public spaces of Moscow: in the streets, squares, pedestrian areas, boulevards and parks.

Projects create points of attraction for citizens, becoming places of rest.

In addition to the aesthetic function, the projects will also perform an ecological task: they will attract insects to the city center, as it happened during the previous years competitions, which helped a lot to maintain ecological balance.

Nomination 2 - Professional

«MEDIUM EXHIBITION GARDEN (70-100 SQUARE METERS)»

Projects create points of attraction for citizens, becoming places of rest.

In addition to the aesthetic function, the projects will also perform an ecological task: they will attract insects to the city center, as it happened during the previous years competitions, which helped a lot to maintain ecological balance.

Nomination 4 - Professional

«LANDSCAPE DESIGN FOR SOCIAL AREAS (50-100 SQUARE METERS)»

Projects are implemented on the territories of schools, boarding schools, hospitals, clinics and other social institutions.

Projects are not only a place of rest and are not limited to aesthetic and ecological functions, they should be additionally fully functional corresponding to the location (therapeutic, sensory gardens, creative playground spaces, etc.).

Nomination 5 - Student

«THE COMPETITION OF STUDENT PROJECT (50-100 SQUARE METERS)»

The Competition is for projects of landscape design compositions for public spaces of Moscow, created by students of specialized educational institutions, future professionals in the field of landscape design and architecture.

This nomination was established in order to attract creative young people to discussions of new visions of Moscow as well as urgent issues of modern urban landscape design.

Expert Committee
Flower Jam 2018
First time the contest was held in the Summer of 2017 in the framework of the city festival "Moscow Summer. Flower jam."

This was confirmed at the VIII Russian National Award for Landscape Architecture, where the festival "Moscow Summer. Flower Jam." became the winner in the category Event of the Year ".

Temporary projects of the contest participants of the competition and special projects of curators and the professional jury members decorated the squares, streets and boulevards of the capital, becoming a part of the city landscape. This was unique experience in the world practice of landscape design competitions which proved to be very successful.

During the festival these projects were seen by 7.2 million Moscovites and visitors of the capital. The gardens became so popular among citizens that some of them remained in the city until October.

A total of 260 flower gardens, 9 exhibition gardens and 4 special projects were constructed. It took more than 60 000 flowers and plants to create them.
